best kept secret festival

Hi all,

The best news I had all day :)

http://www.bestkeptsecret.nl/line-up/

Shillelagh 03-14-2013 06:47 AM

Alt j was great live. Don't miss them

carrroline 03-14-2013 06:21 PM

Thanks. I'm hesitating to buy tickets, though...
I kinda dislike festivals, because the sound is usually poor, and I don't like gigantic crowds that much. I'm hoping that he'll add another European date in a smaller venue...
Like the gig he did in Oslo last year.
It's bit of a gamble... I'll keep my fingers crossed.

blower'sdaughter 04-14-2013 02:02 PM

I'll keep my fingers crossed too, hoping he will announce a date in italy... but it's already april so I'm quite desperate.. and blue balls festival is sold out!
do you know any site that sell tickets?

carrroline 04-14-2013 03:06 PM

I know... I considered blue balls as well, so when I noticed it was sold out, i panicked and booked my tickets for best kept secret festival.
If a better date suddenly should appear, I'll just go to both gigs :)
Tickets for BKS festival are still available on heir website.
Maybe he's just too busy working on that new album, to add more gigs...
Once it is released, he'll have to do a complete tour, right? I certainly hope so :)

Shillelagh 04-15-2013 04:10 AM

When I went to blue balls there were definitely scalpers there.

carrroline 06-16-2013 07:24 PM

Less than a week to go! I'm getting a bit nervous... Strange.
Anyone from the Netherlands on this forum?
I was just wondering... Is the festival covered by a tv or radio station?

carrroline 06-23-2013 02:34 AM

Aaah.... He was A M A Z I N G !
Here's the setlist:
Professor
Delicate
Canonball
Woman like a man
9 crimes
I remember
Elephant
Volcano
Cheers darlin'
Rootless tree
--
Blower's daughter
The box

He wasn't very chatty though... Only the usual story 'bout Cheers darlin'
Nothing about the new album.

carrroline 06-23-2013 02:41 AM

Oh, and you can watch part of the set here:

Sorry, that is the complete set!
And I didn't even have to bother filming it :)
I was standing in front row, very near to the center. I feel soooo lucky. Can't wait until August.
Need some sleep now...

That setlist doesn't contain much news, it looks pretty much like the setlists of 2003. Argh, I hope he really has new stuff coming up!

blower'sdaughter 06-23-2013 02:24 PM

did he do an aftershow?

I think he chose the old stuff because the entire set was recorded, and he wants to keep the new songs fresh.

No aftershow as far as I know, but apparently he walked into the audience after the show. Didn't see him though... :(

carrroline 06-23-2013 04:01 PM

Hehe... I'm just watching the video. I'm actually in it a couple of times...

That's one explanation. But seriously, the only two new songs that he plays regularly are The Box and The Greatest Bastard. And he's been playing those for over two years now...

Shillelagh 06-24-2013 06:34 AM

whole show with soundboard recording

sorry but no, only The Box has been played, The Greatest Bastard was "secret" until The Hotel Cafe show in February...
and I think he has learnt a lot from 9, where all the songs had been previously played before the release and everyone knew them already. I think now he is trying to avoid the "it was better live" reaction, keeping most of the songs secret until the release.

He's been playing TGB for about a year now, but anyway, besides the point. Ofcourse I hope you are right with your theory. That was a real weakness with 9.

glo32 06-24-2013 05:15 PM

Last year he used to play The Greatest Bastard only during the aftershows, in front of audiences of 20-30 people. I don't think that it can be considered as "played regularly", he has always tried to keep it secret. He has played it during the Icelandic Sessions in 2008 but that's not enough to say he's been playing TGB regularly for the latest 5 years... The only song he's been playing regularly at proper gigs is The Box.
I think he's just slowly introducing them. First The Box, then, one or two years later, The Greatest Bastard... then maybe another new song in a few months, etc... but I can see the new album coming out with only a very few songs known...
