Default Damien will tour

Despite his assertions to the contrary in the recent press release, Damien will be touring to support the new album.

I saw Glen Hansard tonight in LA, and as I was saying goodbye, I said, "See you when you're next in town." He responded, "We'll be back in December." I asked whether it would be as The Swell Season or as The Frames or what, and he said that The Swell Season would be supporting Damien on his tour in support of the new album and that they'd be in LA in December. I asked when in December, and after thinking hard about it he said "December 8th and 9th at the Wiltern."

The information totally bummed me out and I hope it's not true because I'm going to be in Hawaii on December 9th seeing U2 with special guests Pearl Jam (not asking you to feel sorry for me or anything just would hate to miss the LA shows!). I was SO excited about my trip to Hawaii until now :/

You Yanks have had too much Damo for my liking - send him to London straight away, where we will sit quietly and listen in rapture and awe!

Yes, because the audience at London gigs are always very quiet and respectful...

Too many scenesters at gigs in London. All Morons.

Fly to the US damien, fly!

And at least from all the video evidence I've seen from the US tours they dont ****ing sign along and ruin it for everyone like they clearly do at the Irish gigs.

Personally I dont think Damien should ever tour in Ireland ever again after the awful way the audience treats his gigs.

It's likely Damien was so angry at the first gig because of the situation, and he thought "Ykno what? I'm never going to appear here in Ireland ever again".

Good for America!

i have to agree with that. i didn't like the audience in Vicar Street in general.
talking during Fionn Regan and stuff. Damien deserves better. he should play this place near me.. intimate little theatre.... (the frames did it recently)

He shouldn't tour, if he really can't stand the european audiences anymore, I'd respect that. Go, Damien, raise the middle finger to them with that, they deserve it! And also to the people who are like childs, demanding everything like they got a right to do so. Whatever happened to humbleness.

that's just thick.. seriously, i mean i thought for a long time that damien was too big for his boots, but touring in america again is kind of a step too far.

hendrik mentioned about people demanding everything all the time, but i think the people and country of his home should get a little bit more respect than he shows us.

Damien should only tour where there are Eskimo friends living.

He did 2 gigs there this year, not to mention the 273 he played at Electric Picnic. It seems whenever a tour is announced people in Ireland complain. Just because he was born there, it doesnt mean he has to show up there.

Its not like he owes Ireland much either. London was more productive in getting his record produced, Hollywood was more productive in getting his music well known, so there we are.

Regardless of these facts, he has still played in Ireland at least once every year since he started, so there.

A few months ago I would have agreed with you, what changed my mind was finding out that 5% of Damien's fans live in Ireland, thus he gives it a proportionate 5% of his time. Also when he did show up recently, I got to see him play six times in five days. Which was worth the wait.

Something that you don't see is his fans outside Ireland saying "show us some respect Damien" to anyone who'll listen. It's exactly the sort of thing that this guy was talking about. People getting territorial because Damien is Irish, and thinking that no matter how famous he gets, he should still be playing Vicar St every three months. The fact is that he's not a pop act. He might have an audience somewhere, but hell will freeze over before he gives a toss what any of them think. He's pretty much said that in the 9 press release, that the only reason that he's actively recording is his friends, not his fans.

In any case. There's f*ck all point in basing an argument on something that Glen Hansard mentioned in passing about a possible tour schedule. As yet there is no tour schedule. We don't know for sure if there will be. If there is one to come though, who says that the first stop won't be Longford?

Question

I was fornuate to see Damien twice this year on his US tour. In both cities, Austin (home of sxsw) and in Dallas. The crowd was very respectful. He was very witty and played long sets both nights. We all knew the genius we saw before us and both shows were completely sold out. There are idiots in every venue, city, and country world wide. He should tour where he enjoys playing. I am sorry that everyone seems to feel that the US shouldn't be able to have him tour here. I just don't understand.

I'm surprised that the reaction was so negative. Nothing about what Glen said suggested that Damien won't be playing in Ireland. Geez. Two dates! That's all I got! And Glen's busy for much of November, so who knows, maybe damien will be running about all the counties of Ireland during that time. Calm down!

For what it's worth I agree with Sean - touring America makes sense since we have so many more people to buy tickets and CDs. That's what touring is about anyway.
